Otto Alencar (PSD-BA), Chairman of the Senate Constitution and Justice Committee (CCJ), predicts that the reappointment of the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gone, should be “easily” approved by the House of Representatives this Wednesday (12/11).
In his column, the Bahia state senator said he had been speaking with Mr. Gonet in recent days about the prosecution hearings at the CCJ. Otto said the quorum of Brasilia’s senators this week was “good” and should help prosecutors approve his reappointment.

“We have a quorum of 73 senators, which is great. His name goes through. There were shots fired, but no one was shot,” the senator said.
Like Otto, other Centrao leaders expect Gone’s name to be easily approved by the CCJ and the full Senate. However, they acknowledge that Sen. Bolsonaro should denounce prosecutors during the hearings.

The assessment at Centron is that Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) allies should confront Mr. Gone, especially regarding his complaints against the former president in the coup investigation and the PGR’s request for Vice President Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP).
Preparation of Gone
Gone spoke with several senators before the hearing, allies said. After visiting many parliamentarians in 2023, prosecutors now prioritized contact by phone, although some were also accepted at PGR headquarters.
