Jonathan Sanchez, a member of the Vox Municipality of Béjar (Salamanca), was arrested by private security on Monday this week on a charge punishable by bankruptcy, an official from the Institute of Armament confirmed to EFE.
The mayor of the Bejarno council was arrested following a search and detention order and has already given evidence in a Bejar court.
In criminal law, punishable bankruptcy refers to an offense in which a person, natural or legal, who is obliged to pay a debt agreed with a creditor, commits a series of illegal acts in order to avoid paying the money owed.
Vox sources in Salamanca told EFE that the situation is currently in the information-gathering stage, as it has nothing to do with its formation or his position as a member of Béjar’s city council.
The city’s mayor, Antonio Cámara (PSOE), has stated that he has no knowledge of the incident and that he only learned about it thanks to the media, which is why he has avoided commenting.
Bejarano’s first mayor expressed his “sadness” over the “bad image” this meant for those working for the common good of the town.
