Federal Deputy Guilherme Delight (PL-SP) shed tears as he spoke about the police officers killed in a large-scale operation in a community in Rio de Janeiro last month. Congress held a solemn session this Wednesday (12/11) in memory of Rio de Janeiro’s security forces. See Derrite’s participation.
In his speech, the congressman made the following statement: “I’ve been in the military police for 18 years, and the hardest moment, Colonel, is watching you hand the flag to your family. For many, it’s a piece of cloth. People don’t know the weight of handing the flag to a 10-year-old girl. I do,” he said. There was applause after the speech.
Delight also spoke about Anti-Faction PL, for which he is a rapporteur, and criticized the Federal Police (PF). “The Brazilian state cannot accept the proposals submitted to this Congress to reduce the sentences of criminals. All that remains is the story of the glorious Federal Police, Director Victor, to which you belong. I do not want to say that you belong. You will always be a federal police officer. This narrative is weak, because they cannot discuss terrorism with me, because our project is tough.”
The session was attended by families of police officers killed in police operations, authorities, and members of Congress. Rio de Janeiro Governor Claudio Castro (PL) also attended this occasion.

The large-scale operation took place late last month in Rio de Janeiro’s Peña and Alemán complexes. The police action, considered the deadliest in Rio de Janeiro’s history, left more than 100 people dead, at least 12 injured and more than 100 arrested.
