Immediately after the oral argument by Lt. Col. Rodrigo Bezerra Azevedo’s lawyer, Jeffrey Chichini, Flavio Dino, head of the first panel of the Supreme Court of the Federation (STF), spoke of “respect for the Supreme Court both inside and outside the Supreme Court.” He also spoke about the Code of Ethics in Brazilian Law established by the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB).

“This is not a parliamentary tribune. This is not a jury tribunal tribune, and this also applies to other manifestations outside this plenary session. The tribunal has been very loyal to the Brazilian legal community throughout more than 100 years of the Republic. Therefore, we demand similar treatment not only within this tribune, but also outside it,” the minister stressed.

Dino also emphasized that “we must not lose sight of the ritual.” “One of the reasons for the deterioration of our country’s politics is that we have lost sight of rituals,” he added.
The Panel Chair emphasized the evaluation of the parties’ claims. “Those who have watched these trials know the importance of oral arguments, and we highly respect all the rights of members of Congress and the legal profession. Those who have watched these trials know that oral arguments here have been weighted to dismiss charges, acquittals, and dosimetry. So, of course, courts know how to seriously evaluate the body of evidence presented by the parties.”
In conclusion, Mr. Dino emphasized: “We know our role very well, and we have and have always done it very calmly, carefully and proportionately, knowing what the responsibilities of the court are. We are the only ones who emphasize that the court is as much a recipient of a legal duty of respect as it is a relationship with the parties.”

During oral argument, Mr. Scichini called the civil service’s case “the worst of my life.” He still made arguments about which evidence should be invalidated. Rodrigo Bezerra’s lawyer defended a series of problems in the federal police investigation on social media, among other criticisms.
Dino did not mention the criticism in his speech, but he did mention how it happened. Therefore, he considered respect.
Lt. Col. Rodrigo Bezerra Azevedo’s lawyer Jeffrey Chichini also complained about prosecutor Paulo Vasconcelos Jacobina’s reaction during oral arguments.
“I’m sorry, but I don’t know what’s funny. The prosecutor was laughing while I was speaking. I don’t know what’s funny,” Schichini said.
