Military police officers from the 41st BPM, which serves the area, were on “patrol after being alerted that a child had been attacked by a pit bull,” the corporation said in a statement. The victim was located on Monseñor Felix Street, Ilaja.
When investigators arrived at the scene, they were informed that the child had been rescued and taken to Francisco da Silva Telles Municipal Hospital, located in the same neighborhood, police said. The case is ongoing, the prime minister says.
The city’s health department said in a statement early this afternoon that the boy was hospitalized in serious condition after the dog attack. “The patient was losing a lot of blood and our team responded immediately. About five minutes after admission, while we were still trying to stabilize his condition, he went into cardiopulmonary arrest,” he said in a folder. He was later confirmed dead.
At approximately 8:50 a.m., the fire department was called to 1104 Street for an incident classified as a “clinical event.” However, when the team arrived, the patient had already been rescued and removed from the scene.
There is no information on how the dog’s attack on the child happened or who the pit bull belonged to.
