Madrid November 12 (Europe Press) –

Israeli authorities reported on Wednesday that the Zikim border crossing in the northern Gaza Strip had been reopened to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into the Palestinian enclave, two months after it was closed during an army operation.

“Following government instructions, the Zikim border crossing has been opened for the entry of trucks carrying humanitarian supplies to the Gaza Strip,” the Coordinator for Regional Government Activities (COGAT), the Israeli military authority in charge of the Palestinian territories, said in a statement.

As such, he explained that aid supplies “pass through thorough safety inspections by the Ministry of Defence’s Overpass Directorate before being transported by the United Nations and international organizations.”

The pass was closed on September 12 to commemorate the start of the second phase of Operation Gideon Tanks, centered in Gaza City, in which the Israeli military sought to end Hamas and destroy all its military capabilities.
