For its first “Netflix House” to open this Wednesday (12/11), the American streaming giant has chosen one of the country’s largest shopping malls in King of Prussia, a suburb of the city of Philadelphia (Pennsylvania). The next openings are scheduled for December 11th in Dallas, Texas, and in 2027 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Admission to the nearly 10,000 square meter space is free and decorated with themes from the platform’s most popular works, including Bridgerton, Stranger Things, Round 6 and K-Pop Warriors.
However, you will be paid for indoor activities such as mini golf, movies, restaurants, and souvenir shops.
Netflix has been offering this type of episodic experience for several years. Approximately 40 activities have been carried out in approximately 350 cities so far.
But given the difficulty of finding a space large enough to accommodate them, “it became clear that we could be more flexible if we had a permanent space,” Marian Lee, the company’s marketing director, explained at a press conference last Monday.
Netflix has selected shopping centers in the suburbs of Philadelphia and Dallas, and the activities offered there will change regularly, with the aim of making them “frequent destinations” for locals.
In Las Vegas, the concept is much different. “It’s not inside a shopping mall, it’s along the Strip, the main avenue of the city.” “The general public is different. They are tourists coming and going (…). So we program the activities a little differently,” Lee explained.
Asked by AFP about the cost of these projects, Lee said he did not have “exact numbers” but asserted that they were “huge capital investments, both in physical construction and scenario development.”
There are currently no similar projects planned outside the United States.
