Shopee announced that it has sold 20 million items, breaking the record for the number of hits for an app on Tuesday 11.11, the main promotional day of the year. The company had already reported that sales through 12pm yesterday exceeded last year’s Black Friday sales.
The platform said there was a “significant increase” in purchases of high-value-added goods. Among the categories with the highest sales growth compared to last year were Computers and Accessories (+120%), Consumer Electronics (+60%), and Market Items, Sports, and Mobile Phones (all three up 20%). However, the best-selling products were hair treatment items, with over 20,000 units sold.
In a report published today based on preliminary data on Shopee’s 11.11, BTG Pactual had already observed an increasing trend in sales of high value-added products.
“One of the key highlights was the increase in sales in higher value categories, which have historically been less represented in ‘cross-border’ markets. Consumer electronics accounted for more than 10% of total GMV (general sales value) in the first half of the day, moving up two places compared to the 2024 ranking,” the report states.
Among payment methods, credit cards were the most preferred, accounting for over 50% of transactions, ahead of Pix (39%).
