Colombian President Gustavo Petro issued the order on Tuesday of this week. “Cease transmission of communications or other transactions with U.S. security agencies.” Until the country’s attacks on ships allegedly transporting drugs in Caribbean and Pacific waters cease.

“Public security intelligence agencies at all levels have been ordered to cease communications and other transactions with U.S. security agencies,” Petro wrote in X magazine.

The president explained: “Such measures will remain in place as long as missile attacks against shipping in the Caribbean continue.”“The war on drugs must be subordinated to the human rights of Caribbean peoples,” he added.

In recent months, Mr. Petro stepped up his criticism of US President Donald Trump. He accused the country of committing “murder” and “war crimes” in an anti-drug offensive that has recorded dozens of attacks and more than 70 deaths since September, first in the Caribbean and then in the Pacific.

The events have deepened tensions between Washington and the governments of Colombia and Venezuela, whose leaders Trump has accused of facilitating drug trafficking.

Petro’s announcement came after a CNN report. Britain has stopped sharing intelligence with the US This is to ensure that the U.S. military does not participate in attacks on vessels suspected of drug trafficking in the Caribbean, which it considers illegal.

For many years, Britain controlled several territories in the Caribbean and maintained intelligence bases. Assisted in the discovery of a suspicious U.S. ship Officials told the outlet that the purpose was to transport drugs so that the U.S. Coast Guard could intercept them. This meant the boat was stopped, boarded, the crew arrested and drugs seized.

The UK decision means:important break It is one of our closest allies and an important partner in intelligence sharing.
