PP accuses Monica Garcia of ‘falsifying’ cancer screening data and ‘stoking fear’

Two weeks after health ministers from PP-governed autonomous communities confronted Monica García at a meeting of the Territorial Health Council and accused her of “institutional dishonesty,” the Ministry of Health and the autonomous communities have now met again. … Wednesday. The cancer screening program was once again at the center of the meeting’s agenda after the public demanded that ministers raise the issue at the meeting. In this sense, the public has accused ministers of “inciting alarm” and “tampering” with disease prevention programs.

This was criticized by Aragon’s Health Minister José Luis Bancarello on behalf of the Popular Party before the start of the conference. He stressed that there was “full transparency” in the PP-governed autonomous region and that it had not hidden data, which Minister Monica García had criticized in recent weeks. “The data will be uploaded to the National Testing Network,” he continued, which he said is the only way that exists today to process this information. “If the ministry activates the disposal tool, no community will oppose it,” he asserted.

Popular lawmakers have reiterated over and over again that review boards made up of technical experts, relying on public health committees, must establish common metrics for these review programs. As of today, Bancarello reiterated that these homogeneous indicators are still under consideration. But for Monica Garcia, these arguments are “excuses” and she wants regional representatives to provide data “even in Excel.”

“It’s a lack of respect for the experts and technicians of the working group who decide which indicators are the most appropriate and what they should be in order to be standardized and homogeneous in all autonomous communities. “It’s ridiculous for the minister to say, “I’m going to send what I wrote in Excel to the minister,” Bancarello charged. He argued that not all regions have the same indicators, as some regions measure 6, others 10, and others 16.

without tools

Last April, the Bancarello Ministry of Health worked on developing a tool to process this data on cancer screening, but declared that it is not working to date. “We call for transparency, seriousness and rigor when processing this data,” said the Aragon state representative. Along similar lines, Fatima Matute, Madrid’s regional health minister, accused the health minister of using the testing crisis in a “sinister way”.

And last week, Minister Monica García similarly questioned what she thought of the PP’s “excuses” for not providing data. “One of two things: either you want to hide Moreno Bonilla’s negligence or you want to hide others from the PP,” he began. The Minister reiterated that municipalities can provide this information if necessary and, as before, clarified that if municipalities do not do so, the government will initiate controversial administrative proceedings against them.

lack of experts

The People’s Party also asked the Minister to address the lack of experts in the public system at this Wednesday’s meeting. Bancarello noted that the departure of more than 1,100 primary care professionals is imminent unless the government extends the so-called Enhanced Active Duty Retirement System, which allows family physicians and pediatricians who reach retirement age to continue working while receiving 75% of their pension. “It is the responsibility of the Ministry of Health to provide the local health system with experts,” said the Aragonese counselor, recalling that the PP had proposed measures such as making the creation of educational units more flexible without the Ministry of Health “paying attention”.
