The next state championship will feature a new format without grouping, inspired by the Champions League, the main competition in European soccer. According to the São Paulo Football Federation (FPF), the new regulations were adopted as the CBF introduced a new calendar for Brazilian football.
The first phase will feature eight rounds in a straight points format, guaranteeing all the classics between Corinthians, Palmeiras, São Paulo and Santos, as well as the Campinas derby between Guarani and Ponte Preta. In addition, the Big 4 will face Mirasol, who will take the Brazilian soccer world by storm in 2025.
The top eight players will qualify for the quarterfinals and semifinals, which will be held in singles matches. However, FPF said it is still unclear whether the tournament final will be held as a single match or as a round trip.
In 2026, the tournament will run from January 11th to March 8th.
