Transaction volume in Brazil’s services sector increased by 0.6% in September, the eighth consecutive positive result and the best result in the historical series for the month.
Year-to-date, it has increased by 2.8%. For September 2024, service volume increased by 4.1%, marking the 18th consecutive positive rate in total.
This result was driven by transportation services (up 1.2% month-on-month) and information technology services (up 1.2%).
It increased by 3.1% over the 12 months, maintaining the rate of increase compared to the cumulative total up to August (3.1%). This data is part of the Monthly Service Survey (PMS) published this Wednesday (12/11) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

September Service Sector Highlights
For research manager Rodrigo Lobo, sustaining recent growth was the responsibility of the transport sector group.
“The big highlight is that the historic series of peaks will be updated in September 2025. This update has been happening since April last year. The main responsibility for this series of positive rates lies with the transport sector,” he said.
Other gains were made by the information and communications sector (1.2%), according to IBGE, rebounding from the 0.5% decline observed in August by the consulting and information technology sector.
Other services also made a positive contribution, with insurance, supplementary pensions and medical insurance leading the way, marking the third consecutive increase.
