The driver of the motorcycle used in the death of Lais de Oliveira Gómez Pereira, 25, turned himself in to police in the late afternoon of November 7, the day an arrest warrant was issued. In his testimony, Eric Santos Maria Lasner said pillion rider Davi de Souza Marto fired at the victim, but he did not respond. However, the Metropolitan Homicide Police team in charge of the case does not believe this theory and is increasingly believing that Eric is in possession of the weapon used in the crime.

Investigators recognized inconsistencies in the boy’s testimony and tried to exonerate him, saying he feared Davey and felt he was “coercing” him to follow his orders. For the police, Eric had a chance to escape from the killer, but he preferred to wait for the killer after the crime. Additionally, he likely hid the tattoo on his arm to make identification difficult — in testimony, the suspect said he hid the tattoo to protect it from the sun.
Eric explained in his statement that their mutual friend Davi needed to drive to Sepetiva on November 4th. When they found him, they noticed he was wearing a red shirt, black pants, and a black hat, but Eric wouldn’t have noticed if he was carrying a concealed weapon.
After riding the bike, Davy would have instructed Eric to go to the street where Rice was later found. According to the pilot’s statement, the entire trip was led by Davy. At one point, he allegedly asked Eric to park his car, got off his bike and handed Eric a piece of plastic to place over his license plate.
“At this moment, the declarant feared and feared Marto (David). Since Marto is a known murderer, the declarant feared for his life, believing that Marto was trying to kill him. The complainant felt that he was being coerced by Marto. While the complainant watched without responding, Marto walked up to the victim and killed him. In desperation, the complainant went to Marto.
After the crime, Davy and Eric ran away and went to another location. The former intended to change his shirt from red to black, but the latter abandoned his bike and asked his girlfriend to pick him up.
Davi’s arrest came after his mother recognized him on television in a video about Rice’s execution. Disappointed, she handed her son over to police and even issued an emotional report apologizing to Rice’s family.
–I want to ask for forgiveness from this father. This Rice family is crying. Because I know that if I suffer, their suffering is greater. Because her children will have to live without their mother. I didn’t create a criminal. My son was a good boy – the woman told G1.
