The Kenyan government has acknowledged that its citizens are in Eastern Europe and fighting for Russia in the Ukraine war. This information was announced this Thursday (11/13) by Kenyan Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi.
More than 200 Kenyan nationals are fighting alongside Russian forces, according to a statement released by Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“There are reports that more than 200 Kenyans may have joined the Russian military, including former members of the Kenyan security forces,” Mudavadi said.
According to the prime minister, people are attracted to fake job offers in Russia. The salary was approximately $18,000 per month, plus visa, airfare, and accommodation in Europe.
The Kenyan government’s statement came days after Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andriy Sibikha said more than 1,400 Africans from 36 countries were fighting for Russia.
In response to the situation, Kenya’s foreign minister has warned the public to be cautious when it comes to job offers.
