The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) warned this Friday of the presence of staphylococcal toxins in a batch of Queceria Rojo Prieto brand Cabrales cheese, information revealed in a notification from Asturian health authorities.
The affected product is “Queso Cabrales” from the Quesería Rojo Prieto brand. Lots 08125 and 08225, on the other hand, have an expiry date of October 1, 2026 to October 15, 2026, and a unit weight of 2.5 kg. In addition to these, batch 08125, 350 grams of cheese with a best before date of October 1, 2026 to October 15, 2026;
AESAN, which is affiliated with the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, elaborated that the information was the result of self-regulation by businesses to comply with the law and avoid providing unsafe food to the public, and was communicated to the competent authorities.
According to available information, the first distribution of the product took place in the autonomous communities of Asturias, Madrid and Murcia, but the possibility of redistribution to other regions is not excluded.
The agency recommends that people who have products covered by this warning in their homes refrain from consuming them. If you have already ingested it and develop symptoms consistent with this poisoning, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, skin erythema, or hypotension, it is recommended that you go to a health center.
This information was forwarded to the competent authorities of the Autonomous Community through the System for Rapid Exchange and Coordination of Information (SCIRI) to ensure that the affected products were removed from marketing channels.
