A series of attacks by Russian forces on the Ukrainian capital Kiev left at least one person dead and 24 injured in the early hours of Friday, local authorities said.
The head of Kiev’s military junta, Timur Tkachenko, confirmed the number of victims on his Telegram account, including children under the age of 10, and expressed his condolences to their families and relatives.
Hours earlier, the town’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, announced that five of the injured were hospitalized, including a pregnant woman and a man in critical condition.
The attack, which began at 2:20 a.m. local time this Friday (1:20 a.m. local time in mainland Spain and the Balearic Islands), affected the districts of Desnianski, Dalnitsky, Dniprovski, Podilski, Shevchenkivski, Holoszywski and Solomianski.
Significant damage has been reported to residential buildings, education and medical centers, and in some neighborhoods, falling debris has caused fires in both open spaces and infrastructure.
Authorities expect water and electricity outages and have sent emergency services and medical teams to all affected areas.
