Cat comforts owner and moves nest during home birth

A cat owner has won hearts with her photo after sharing her cat’s reaction when she saw her in labor. Maria, owner of the @altxmaria profile on TikTok, chose to have a natural birth at home. Therefore, the feline followed all the processes.

The moment Maria chose was one she, her husband, and their black cat Jack experienced in 2022. The publication, shared on TikTok, has already garnered more than 4.2 million views and 1.2 million likes. In the image, she and her husband are seen holding hands and the cat appears to be comforting her in a moment of distress.

Jack’s arrival and birth

In an interview with Newsweek magazine, Maria said Jack joined her family when she adopted five abandoned kittens. They were less than a day old, and three of them were already dead when the woman received them.

“Dawn noticed, but it’s my cat who comforts me when I’m in labor,” the caption reads.

“We don’t know what they were doing, but Jack and the other kitten left behind became ill and required 24-hour care. And the other kitten, whom we named Colby, only lived for a week,” she said.

Having cared for the cat since its first days of life, the two developed a very strong bond. She also noted how attached and attentive her pet was, including during the birth. At that moment, the tutor said, everyone in the room said,ah“For her, seeing the photo again brought all those emotions to the surface.

“When the contractions started, he ran up to me, butted our heads and purred, and when the contractions reached their peak, he came back across the room and watched me. This went on for about an hour.”

Maria said her husband also noticed Jack trying to comfort them.

In one photo, a man can be seen smiling and looking at Jack, moments after headbutting a woman. Pets did the same thing during each of Maria’s three home births. He always showed care, concern, and love. Now Jack is 10 years old.
