Authorities said the site in Tatuape (SP), east of Sao Paulo, where the explosion occurred was being used as a storage facility for explosives. Fire Department Capt. Valdir Santos said it was suspected that the space was secretly being used to make fireworks and hot air balloons. The owner of the space has not yet been found.

Fireworks explosion scares residents in eastern SP
The explosion occurred at around 7:45 pm this Thursday (11/13) on Calle Celso Garcia, near the intersection with Salim Farah Maruf. One person was killed and at least 10 injured. Additionally, the explosion caused damage to nearby homes and hit cars and people near the scene.
Col. Valdir Santos said there was still unburned material at the scene. The substance will be sent to civilian police for testing.
In addition to one person who died at the scene, four others were taken to hospital with more serious injuries. Among them was a 19-year-old man who suffered bruises on his body.
Firefighters said the other six people suffered minor injuries and did not require rescue.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
