Lewis Hamilton is going through a difficult period at Maranello, having failed to finish on the podium in 21 races with Ferrari. For Ralf Schumacher, the younger brother of seven-time champion Michael Schumacher, the team should pay the fine, terminate the British player’s contract and bet on the young Oliver Bearman, who is now the Haas driver.
The former driver spoke candidly in an interview on Sky’s Backstage Boxengasse podcast.
“There’s a young guy at Ferrari called Bearman who’s doing great things at Haas and he costs a fraction of Lewis Hamilton,” he said.
Schumacher also said the 20-year-old British player could be used to “build something” for the future.

Hamilton, 40, joined Ferrari in 2025 but is yet to win or finish on the podium. His best result was winning a sprint race in China.
“For some reason I feel like the film went a little too fast for him,” the German said, highlighting the seven-time champion’s poor performance.
Schumacher also criticized the Briton’s recent mistakes.
“He couldn’t control the car, made a mistake, got a penalty and crashed into Carlos Sainz in Brazil,” he said. For Hamilton, who has seven podiums and 214 points this season compared to his teammate’s 148, he “needs to give more than 100%” to keep pace with Charles Leclerc.
The former driver recalled that a similar situation had already happened at Ferrari.
“In 2009 they paid Kimi Raikkonen to make room for Alonso. The same thing could happen now,” he said. He said the team needs to think long-term and “move forward with young, talented players like Bearman.”
Hamilton, who is under contract until 2027, faces the worst run short of a podium in his career and in the Italian team’s history.
