Madrid November 14 (Europe Press) –
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced this Friday that Ukraine will contribute 150 million euros to the PURL (Ukraine Priority Requirements List) initiative, a program to buy weapons from the United States for use in Ukraine’s war against Russia.
Pistorius made these remarks in Berlin this Friday while hosting a meeting of the so-called “Group 5” defense ministers of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy and Poland and the European Union’s High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy Kaja Karas.
During the meeting, the Ministers discussed the current state of the conflict, which is characterized by increased Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, and agreed on the importance of continuing cooperation with the PURL initiative, including through an announcement by the German Minister.
“We have decided to invest at least another 150 million euros to participate in this package. Therefore, we are moving forward again,” Pistorius said.
This latest package was announced a day after the Nordic and Baltic states announced a joint commitment of $500 million to buy American military equipment and ammunition for Kiev.
Germany’s defense minister conveyed the group’s unanimous condemnation of the accelerating Russian-orchestrated bombing campaign, saying the country’s President Vladimir Putin was “trying to make the winter as unbearable as possible” in order to “demoralize the Ukrainian people.”
“Even though they have not been successful so far, these attacks are horribly outrageous and a flagrant violation of international law and human rights,” the German minister denounced, confirming that his country had no intention of abandoning Ukraine. “Please continue to rely on us,” he said.
