goiania – Harovio Telles Fonseca, president of the Rio Verde Regional Union, a municipality in the southwestern state of Goiás, was arrested on Wednesday (12/11) on suspicion of a series of crimes against women, including rape, sexual harassment, psychological violence, and coercion.
The company said the investigation began in September after receiving an anonymous complaint that abuse had occurred within the work environment. The victim will be an employee of the organization.

Ms Fonseca was arrested during an investigation by the Women’s Aid Police Department (Deam), which also executed a search and seizure warrant. Mobile phones and other items were seized and will undergo forensic examination.

According to civilian police, some of the crimes appear to have occurred in rooms used by the persons being investigated, which had electronic locks that were under the exclusive control of the persons being investigated. According to collected reports, leaders used their positions of power and political and economic influence to intimidate and silence women.
Three victims have been identified so far, including a 16-year-old boy. In one of the cases, one of the victims is said to have attempted suicide due to the abuse.
The suspect was taken to the Rio Verde Interim Prison and is currently being punished by the Ministry of Justice.
In a press release, the Rio Verde Regional Union emphasized that Mr. Olvio has voluntarily requested to be relieved of his duties and will remain so until the investigation is completed. The organization also made itself available to assist with any necessary investigations.
“In light of recent events, the Rio Verde Regional Union expresses its confidence in the work of the judiciary and responsible authorities. We are waiting for the facts to be unraveled fairly through due legal process,” he said.
