According to information from TV Globo, dogs and cats were forced to leave their homes due to the disturbance caused by the noise and the collapse of houses. Eileen, a neighbor of the affected property, reported that her 5-year-old dog Fred went missing during the explosion. “I’m appealing to anyone who has seen Fred to get in touch. My grandson is devastated, his mother is in intensive care and the puppy is missing,” he said.
Another resident, Sandra, lost her cat Mia. “We managed to get the puppy back, but the cat disappeared. We don’t know if it ran away or if it hit us in the chaos,” she said emotionally in an interview with TV Globo.
But not all animals were lost. Amora, a puppy, became disoriented after her owner Fatima’s home was attacked, but was rescued by neighbors. Sandra Souza, 65, told Metropoles that Amora was trying to re-enter the destroyed property, adding: “The whole house collapsed and she was hit and taken to the hospital. The dog tried to get into the property anyway and got lost.”
