The American president is donald trumpsaid this Friday that it has asked the Justice Department to investigate the alleged relationship between the two. Jeffrey Epstein J.P. Morgan and several prominent Democrats, including former presidents bill clinton. The request comes after a congressional committee released thousands of documents raising new questions about President Trump’s relationship with a man convicted of a sex crime.
Trump said he has asked the Justice Department to investigate former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers and LinkedIn founder and major Democratic donor Reid Hoffman, as well as former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, who maintained a social relationship with the late Clinton in the early 2000s.
“Epstein was a Democrat. That’s a Democratic problem, not a Republican problem!” Trump wrote on social media. “They all knew about him. Don’t waste your time on me. I have a country to rule!”
The Justice Department did not respond to requests for comment.
“While we regret our association with this man, we did not assist him in his heinous acts. We ended our relationship with him years before he was arrested on sex trafficking charges,” JPMorgan said in an emailed statement.
Mr. Trump and Mr. Epstein were friends in the 1990s and 2000s, but Mr. Trump claims they broke off their relationship before Mr. Epstein’s 2008 conviction. Still, the continued publication of documents related to the relationship during his second term has become a problem.
In 2023, JPMorgan paid $290 million to some of Epstein’s victims to settle allegations that the bank ignored sex trafficking.
To date, there is no credible evidence that the other individuals mentioned by Trump were involved in Epstein’s sex trafficking, and all have previously denied wrongdoing.
Mr. Clinton flew on Mr. Epstein’s private jet several times before his conviction in 2008, and Mr. Hoffman and Mr. Summers interacted with him. The three expressed regret over their relationships with financiers.
A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted in October found that nine in 10 Republicans say they approve of President Trump’s overall performance in the White House, but only four in 10 approve of his handling of the Epstein scandal.
