The explosion at a random fireworks warehouse in Tatuape, east of São Paulo, on Thursday night (November 13) was registered as an environmental crime and personal injury. Civil police have launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
The incident occurred on Calle Francisco Bueno, near Calle Celso Garcia, which intersects with Salim Farah Maruf. Both are nearby roads with very heavy traffic.
According to the Public Security Service (SSP), the case was registered at the 30th Police District (Tatuape). The ministry said an on-site examination has been requested and the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML) will conduct an autopsy.

A man who was said to have been in the house where the explosion occurred has died. At least 10 other people were injured. Other victims were taken to nearby health centers or treated at the scene by emergency teams. At least 21 houses were closed down by the Civil Defense Department after the incident.

The property owner suffered a head injury and was taken to Nipo Brasileiro Hospital in the north of the capital, along with his son, who suffered minor injuries.
The explosion not only hit surrounding buildings, but also collapsed metal structures and damaged vehicles parked in the area. Due to the strength of the impact, Salim Farah Maruf Street was also temporarily closed to ensure the safety of the teams working at the time of the incident.
The man’s charred body, which did not survive the explosion, was found by the Special Tactical Action Group (GATE) bomb squad, which was called out by the fire department in the aftermath. According to the SSP, the deceased victim was suspected of illegally storing explosives on the premises.

At least eight fire department vehicles were called to the explosion, which occurred at about 7:08 p.m. The corporation said the incident occurred at a residence, where fireworks were set off and a large amount of smoke was produced, followed by a small explosion.
Residents in the area reported on social media that the impact broke windows in several apartments in buildings near the explosion site. Cars parked on the street near the explosion site were also damaged.
