On Thursday night (13th), during a stock car training session, a rainstorm tore off part of the roof of the grandstand at Cuiabá’s race track.
The motorsport event marked the opening of the Internacional do Estado de Mato Grosso, a 4.5 km long track with 13 curves that will host the first night race in the championship’s history.
The force of the wind and rain that battered the Mato Grosso state capital knocked down the structure behind the stand, falling onto parked cars and bending some of its support columns. A video posted on social media shows the moment of the accident.
All three people suffered non-serious injuries and were treated by medical teams at the scene. After the building collapsed, the fire department conducted an inspection of the stand.
The state government announced in a statement that qualifying training and races will resume this Friday (14th).
The 10th stage of the 2025 Stock Car Pro Series season, the main cycle race, is scheduled to be held this Friday and Saturday (15th). An estimated 25,000 spectators are expected to attend over the four days of the event, which began on Wednesday (12th).
