storm claudia Heavy rain fell this morning in the southern part of Ávila and the northern part of Caceres, and a rain warning had been in effect since the 6th. The amount of water reached around 150 liters in some places, causing flooding for boats in Avila and Munyo Moral, but the amount of damage has not yet been quantified. The parliaments of Extremadura and Castilla and León have been able to send alerts to their mobile phones to ensure that citizens exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary evacuations.

The Tormes River has overflowed beyond El Barco de Ávila, and the town’s mayor, Pilar Araoz, told RNE: “The entire river basin is covered with water.” At this time, flood waters are weakening, warnings are turning yellow and river flows are decreasing. At 23:30 on a July night, residents of the central system region and southern Avila department received an ES alert message informing them of a red weather warning and instructing them to avoid evacuation. At around 07:00, the Durero automatic information system reported that the situation was complicated by the increase in the volume of Tormes transported in Puente del Congosto (Salamanca), which at that time was transporting 929 cubic meters per second, although it was not on the rise.

Flooding of the Urdano River also occurred in Muño Moral, north of Cáceres, where residents also received ES warning messages. In Tornavacas, 147 liters per square meter were collected during the night, and in Piornal, 120 liters were collected. The Regional Council of Extremadura has activated a flood plan and a secopi has been installed to track the progress of the floods during the night.
The DGT informed that several river routes in both states have been cut. In Avila, districts AV-P-536 and AV-P-537 were reduced by 6.00 in Barco de Avila, and in Cáceres, CC-224 was reduced in Elbaz.
