The Syrian government reported a recorded missile attack on a residential area in the capital Damascus on Friday night, injuring several civilians and causing property damage.
“The capital suffered a dangerous attack with the fall of two Katyusha missiles fired from the outskirts of the city towards the Metse area adjacent to the presidential palace,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement to the SANA news agency.
He added that he is working with the Interior Ministry to “open an investigation into the circumstances of this brutal attack, collect the necessary evidence, and work to determine the trajectory and launch location of the missile.”
“We will not hesitate to pursue those responsible for this criminal act and will take deterrent measures against those who threaten the security of the capital and threaten the lives and stability of Syrians,” the ministerial portfolio added.
The Health Emergencies Authority also confirmed to SANA that a woman suffered moderate injuries in the explosion in Damascus and was taken to hospital.
Meanwhile, the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which has informants in Arab countries, said three explosions occurred in Alawite-majority neighborhoods with many lower-class residents, adding that security forces had cordoned off the area.
