US President Donald Trump confirmed that an agreement had been reached Trade agreement between Argentina and America.
This is an agreement that involves changes to tariffs on pharmaceuticals, chemicals, medical equipment, technology, motorcycles, and more.
The main contents of the agreement are introduced below.
Tariffs, intellectual property, and key points of the agreement between the United States and Argentina
duty
Countries will open their markets to each other for major products. Argentina will provide preferential market access for exports of U.S. products, including certain items. Pharmaceuticals, chemicals, machinery, IT products, medical equipment, automobiles, and a wide range of agricultural products.
Recognizing Argentina’s ambitious reform agenda and trade commitments, and given Argentina’s compliance with relevant economic and supply chain security requirements, the United States will eliminate reciprocal tariffs on certain unobtainable natural resources and unpatented items used for pharmaceutical applications.
Additionally, the United States may proactively consider the national security implications of an agreement, including considering the agreement when adopting trade measures under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, as amended (19 USC 1862). Similarly, countries have committed to improving mutual conditions for bilateral market access in beef trade.
Elimination of non-tariff barriers
Argentina eliminated many non-tariff barriers that had limited access to its market, including import permits, ensuring a more level playing field for international trade, and the agreement promised that exports from the United States to Argentina would no longer require consular processing. Argentina also plans to phase out statistical taxes on U.S. products.
Standards and conformity assessment
Argentina is trying to align with international standards in various areas to facilitate trade. Argentina will continue to eliminate non-tariff barriers affecting trade in priority sectors by allowing U.S. products that comply with applicable U.S. or international standards, U.S. technical regulations, or U.S. or international conformity assessment procedures to be imported into Argentina without additional conformity assessment requirements. Argentina will accept imports of vehicles manufactured in the United States in accordance with U.S. federal motor vehicle safety and emissions standards, as well as certificates and prior marketing authorizations for medical devices and pharmaceuticals from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
intellectual property
Argentina has taken action against an important and notorious regional market for counterfeit goods and will continue to strengthen its crackdown on counterfeit and pirated goods, including in the online environment. Argentina is also working to align its intellectual property system with international standards, while addressing structural challenges such as patentability standards, patent grant delays, and geographical indications cited in the Office of the United States Trade Representative’s 2025 Special 301 Report.
Access to agricultural markets
Argentina has committed to opening its markets to U.S. live livestock, allowing market access for U.S. poultry within one year, and agreed not to restrict market access for products that use certain cheese or meat terms. Argentina will simplify product registration procedures for U.S. beef, beef products, beef offal, and pork products, and will exempt U.S. dairy products from import facility registration. The United States and Argentina intend to work together to address non-tariff barriers affecting trade in food and agricultural products.
work
Argentina reaffirmed its commitment to protecting internationally recognized workers’ rights. Additionally, Argentina will adopt and implement a ban on the import of goods produced using forced labor and strengthen enforcement of labor laws.
environment
Argentina has pledged to take steps to further combat illegal logging. Promote a more resource-efficient economy, including in the critical mineral sector. We fully comply with our obligations under the World Trade Organization (WTO) Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies.
Cooperation in economic security
Argentina will strengthen cooperation with the United States to combat other countries’ non-market-based policies and practices. The two countries are also working to identify tools to coordinate approaches on export controls, investment security, tariff avoidance, and other important issues.
Business considerations and opportunities
Argentina and the United States will work together to promote investment and trade in critical minerals. The two countries also agreed to work to stabilize global soybean trade.
Facing state-owned enterprises and subsidies
Argentina is committed to addressing potential distortive practices by state-owned enterprises and addressing industrial subsidies that may impact bilateral trade relations.
digital commerce
Argentina is committed to facilitating digital commerce with the United States by recognizing the United States as the appropriate jurisdiction under Argentine law for cross-border transfers of data, including personal data. Non-discrimination against U.S. digital services and products. Argentina also intends to recognize electronic signatures that are valid under U.S. law under Argentine law.
