“It wasn’t just an explosion, it was a series of explosions,” said Yandra Steola, a 26-year-old nutritionist who lives with her father, mother and grandmother in the Tatuape area and felt the effects of Thursday night’s explosion up close. No one was injured, but the family’s home and several others in the area will continue to be inspected by Civil Defense.
The morning after the attack, residents gathered amidst the rubble in front of their homes, which had already been covered with orange Civil Defense tape. Containers of the fireworks that caused the explosion were piled up in a sewer ditch, and the smell of gunpowder still permeated the area.
–The worst thing is now and the next day. Yesterday we were up all night and now we see everything here – commented Yandra. — We didn’t know what it was. My father thought it was a balloon, but the explosion was too big.

At the time of the incident, the young woman was leaving her room when she heard only the sound of the window breaking. His grandmother, Neusa Savioli, 90, had just left another room in the house to get medicine when the ceiling collapsed and she was almost hit by debris.
— Thanks to my altar here, it was a relief, — said Neusa, pointing to a series of religious images arranged on a chest of drawers.
Only one room in the house was damaged, so even though there was no electricity, the family welcomed neighbors who were unable to enter their home and prepared breakfast for them.
Dona Irene Mariano, mother-in-law of Elaine Paiva, who suffered trauma and is still hospitalized, owns the house next door to the explosion. His daughter-in-law was in the kitchen when the explosion occurred. Elaine was thrown against a wall and hit her head. In addition to her daughter-in-law, Irene’s grandson was also at home during the explosion. Caio sustained an injury to his hand. Both were taken to Nipo Brasileiro Hospital for treatment and are not in danger of death.
The family dog, Fred, was one of the animals that escaped during the chaos. The spotted sausage dog dachshund spent the night outside until he was discovered in the morning.
— Caio will be very happy. Eileen, who had been in front of the house all morning to see what could be salvaged when she heard the news of her pet, commented that Elaine might feel even better knowing they had found him.

Josely Silvestre and Jose da Silva Filho were also at the gate. There were three people in the residence at the time of the shock. Family members reported that the first moments after being abandoned were confusing. Earthquakes, airplanes, balloons, everything was considered.
– The person who rented the house (where the explosion occurred) had only lived here for a short time, and no one suspected anything, so it couldn’t be helped. He came, got out of his car and left — making the comment referring to Adir de Oliveira Mariano, who died at the scene of the explosion and has been identified by police as the person responsible for secretly storing the fireworks.
Other residents interviewed gave similar reports. No one knew about Mariano and didn’t think there were any explosives there.
As a result of the inspection, 23 facilities were closed, some completely and others partially, according to Civil Defense. A team of technicians from Mukha prefecture is on the scene for new tests.
