U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed on Friday (11/14) that she is following orders from President Donald Trump to launch a federal investigation into billionaire Jeffrey Epstein’s relationships with Democrats and figures from major financial institutions. The decision places the case in the hands of Jay Clayton, chief of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York.
“Thank you, Mr. President,” Bondi wrote in a post to X, along with a “printed copy” of Trump’s order. “Jay Clayton is one of the most capable and trusted prosecutors in this country, and I have tasked him with leading this case. As with all issues, the Department will conduct this process quickly and with integrity to provide answers to the American people.”
Thank you, Mr. President. SDNY U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton is one of the most talented and reliable prosecutors in this country, and I have asked him to lead. As with all matters, the Department intends to pursue this matter with urgency and good faith in order to provide answers to the U.S. government… pic.twitter.com/5zlybVu44U

Mr. Bondi’s decision reflects the White House’s most aggressive move yet to resist growing pressure from Democrats and some Republicans for full disclosure of the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) files related to Mr. Epstein.

Pressure on Congress and President Trump’s onslaught
Democratic and Republican lawmakers filed a petition to bring the issue to a floor vote. President Trump tried to block the initiative’s progress, including holding a Situation Room meeting with Republican lawmakers who signed the petition before it reached a critical number of 218 supporters. Unsuccessful, House President Mike Johnson announced he would bring the proposal to the full floor next week.

Epstein wrote that Trump knew about the sexual abuse but did not participate.
Exasperated, President Trump posted multiple messages on Truth Social criticizing Republican lawmakers, calling them “weak and stupid” and labeling the movement “another hoax.”
In another publication, the president said Democrats were “reviving the Epstein hoax” to distract from the political gridlock in Washington and said party officials “spent much of their lives with Epstein and his island.”
accusation
On Friday, President Trump asked Bondi, the Justice Department, and the FBI to investigate Epstein’s relationships with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, JPMorgan Chase Bank, and other big-name banks.
In response to the citation, JPMorgan Chase responded through spokeswoman Patricia Wexler. The bank ended its relationship with Epstein “years before his arrest on sex trafficking charges,” she said.
In 2023, JPMorgan paid US$290 million to settle a class action lawsuit brought by survivors who accused JPMorgan of ignoring suspicious financial activities that may have facilitated the financiers’ crimes.
