Actor Wagner Moura has joined the veritable “group of the dead” in the 2026 Oscar race, but he still appeared in the lead role. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Brazilian athlete is the frontrunner for the Best Actor award, which will be handed out on March 15 next year, for his performance in the film “The Secret Agent,” directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, who is representing Brazil in the competition for the Best International Film Award.

The latest list from journalist Scott Feinberg’s Feinberg Forecast column ranks Moura ahead of such giants as Leonardo DiCaprio (“One Battle After Another”), Timothée Chalamet (“Marty Supreme”), Michael B. Jordan (“The Sinners”) and George Clooney (“Jay Kelly”). A strong team turns the contest into a clash worthy of a World Cup final.
After its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, The Secret Agent received a standing ovation for over 10 minutes and won Best Director and Best Actor. Since then, the film has garnered praise from international critics and maintains a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
