This Friday (14/11), a new phase of the containment operation launched by the civil and military police led not only to the arrest of criminals linked to the Commando Vermelho of the Baixada Fluminense, but also to the arrest of a member of the municipality of Sant Joan de Meriti, who appeared armed at the scene of the police action.
The lawmaker is Marcos Aquino (Republican), a member of the San Joao de Meriti City Council and the younger brother of one of the operation’s main targets.

The action took place in the Eden Basin, an area disputed by criminal factions, and investigations indicate that CV members are in the process of expanding their territory.
Why were city council members arrested?
The arrest was made after Mr. Marcos Aquino was present at the scene where teams from the Capital Drug Enforcement Police Station (DRE-CAP), Core Police Station and Bop Police Station were executing search, seizure and temporary arrest warrants against suspects related to drug trafficking in the area.

When approaching the operation, the city councilor was in possession of a firearm registered in another person’s name, a situation that constitutes an offense according to the law and led to his immediate arrest.
He was taken to the responsible police station for explanation and interrogation.
Context of operation
The containment operation is the result of an 11-month investigation into the actions of Commando Vermelho in the Sant Joan de Meriti region. Targets include:
- The younger brother of a city council member is being investigated for his direct ties to the core of the faction.
- People close to him suspected of facilitating the movement of criminals within the area.
- Members who worked hard to expand the faction’s territory and set up barricades.
This Friday’s phase culminated in the arrest, seizure of four people and the removal of roadblocks set up by drug traffickers.
