The Federal Ministry of Public Affairs (MPF), through the district attorney’s office in Rio de Janeiro, sent a letter to Rodrigo Baceral, president of the Rio State Legislative Assembly (Alergi), expressing concern that the list of assets to be sold by the state includes the headquarters assets of the Tortura Nunca Mais Group in Botafogo.
The document, signed by prosecutor Julio José Araujo Junior, emphasizes that the administration can sell public assets in accordance with legal requirements, but must prevent such sales from being used for “political or ideological purposes.”
MPF says there is evidence that the decision to include the property on the list may be related to a “critical ideological treatment” of the company’s actions.
For MPF, this institution plays an important role in strengthening Brazil’s democracy and protecting fundamental rights. Prosecutors recommended that Allergi conduct a “careful technical analysis of the project.”
