Artificial intelligence chip stock giant Nvidia is coming to the north of the country. Nuevo León Governor Samuel Garcia said the $1 million investment will be rolled out over the next 10 years and will ensure all facilities are in place for the landing. “NVIDIA already has the land and all the preparations to make the investment. This is the start of a new era. We now want to see the industries of the future: chips, semiconductors, robotics and, of course, artificial intelligence,” García announced this Wednesday at a company event in Mexico City. To facilitate the entry of Nvidia and other companies into the industry, the local government created the Undersecretary for Foreign Investment, Innovation and Artificial Intelligence with a local budget of P500 million.
In the race to develop artificial intelligence, Nuevo León intends to be at the forefront. In announcing this $1 million investment, the local governor touted Nuevo León’s industrial and logistics strength with a network of 260 industrial parks and an ecosystem of 4,500 companies. He also announced the arrival in the territory of Equinix, one of the world’s largest interconnection and data center companies, and hinted that “in a month, I will be in Washington to announce that Equinix will also set up a data center in Nuevo Leon. The state is moving towards the future with what I call a new paradigm of green industry, betting on artificial intelligence, automation and green energy.”

After 20 months of work, NVIDIA wants to establish itself in technology projects in Mexico, said Marcio Aguilar, the company’s director. “What we see today is the strength of the ecosystem in this country. We are going to undergo a lot of training. It is an honor on behalf of NVIDIA to bring all the competition we have and to push Mexico as a leader,” he declared at the opening ceremony of the AI Forum in the country’s capital.
In the same area, Rosaura Ruiz Gutiérrez, Federal Secretary of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation, commented that the revolution brought about by artificial intelligence is already underway and Mexico cannot afford to be left behind. The country’s scientific chief promised to open investment slots to develop these technology projects and to launch a three- to six-month residency program for researchers to work on computing nodes.
Last October, NVIDIA broke a historic stock market record with a market capitalization of over $5 trillion. This is a number that no company has ever reached. The company’s rise in the market will be accompanied by the launch of new models and open data to accelerate AI innovation in language, biology, and robotics, and Mexico will play a key role in the development of these efforts in Latin America.
