Madrid, November 13 (Europe Press) –
British television station BBC has apologized to President Donald Trump for editing a speech he gave shortly before a mob of his supporters stormed the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, but refused to pay compensation.
A BBC spokesperson said the broadcaster’s lawyers had contacted President Trump’s legal team “to respond to a letter we received on Sunday” in connection with the nearly $1 billion (863 million euros) damage claim for which the president is seeking an apology and compensation.
BBC president Sameer Shah sent a separate letter to the White House saying: “The President and the company regret that the editing of the President’s speech of 6 January 2021 is regrettable,” indicating that the BBC has no plans to rebroadcast the cut on any of its platforms.
同氏は「BBCはビデオの編集方法を深く遺憾に思うが、名誉毀損の申し立てに根拠があるということには強く同意しない」と述べた。 In a clarification section of the correction, the network said the Panorama program was reviewed following criticism of the editing of President Trump’s speech.
“We recognize that our editing unintentionally gave the impression that a single continuous section of the speech was being shown rather than fragments of different moments, which created the false impression that President Trump directly called for violence,” he says.
