Current runner-up Victor Rocha from Bahia continued his pursuit of the title, reaching the quarter-finals of the 40th edition of the tournament held at the Club Baiano de Tennis in Salvador (BA). This tournament is one of the most traditional tournaments in Brazil, where points are earned for the youth world rankings. This event is sponsored by Banco BRB through the Brazilian Tennis Federation.
The second favorite beat fellow Bahian Joao Carqueija 0-0 in two sets in a 6/3 7/5 split and will face Guilherme Renner, who benefited from the absence of Paraná’s Enrique Viale when they were tied 4-4 in the first set.
Favorite Leonardo Stork, from Cuiaba, who was a qualifying winner at last month’s Australian Open in Rio de Janeiro, defeated guest Joao Angelico 6/2 6/0 and will face Brazil’s Tomas Macedo, who defeated Enzo Javik 6/0 6/2, in the quarter-finals. Third favorite Rivas Damasio will face Joao Carvalho, who defeated Fernando Caffre 6/2 6/1 and Eduardo Trovo 6/3 4/6 7/5. Carlos Eduardo Lino felt an abdominal injury and withdrew from his match against training partner Bernardo Carvalho, losing the first set 6/4. Carvalho will face Ryan Char, who defeated Matheus Nogueira 6/4, 1/6, 6/1.
In the women’s category, Bahia’s Natalia Turinho faced off against her quarter-final rival, Brazilian Valentina Juan, who defeated Czech Luci Kutova 7/5, 6/3. They will begin their central court program at 9:30 a.m.
All quarterfinal duels will take place this Friday at the Clube Bahiano de Tênis quarterfinals.
The 40th Bahia Juniors Cup has been held for the past 14 years.
