The Russian military launched a large-scale drone and missile attack on Kiev early Friday morning (14 November 2025), authorities reported. The attack hit the building, causing an explosion and fire.
Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said two people were injured.
“Anti-aircraft defense is active in Kiev,” Klitschko wrote on Telegram. “The enemy is launching a major attack on the capital. Please stay in your shelter.”
Klitschko said falling debris hit a five-story apartment building in the Dniprovsky district on the eastern bank of the Dnieper River, and a fire broke out in a high-rise building in the Podil district on the opposite bank.
Meanwhile, Klitschko reported that several calls for medical assistance were reported in the Desnyansky and Shevchenkivsky districts.
A fire broke out on the roof of an apartment building in another neighborhood, and debris fell on a school in the city’s east.
AFP reporters saw tracer rounds being used against the drones and several anti-missile systems deployed.
Another fire broke out in a residential building in the Podilsky district.
Timur Tkachenko, head of Kiev’s military administration, said drones and missiles had been deployed in the capital.
Mr Tkachenko and Mr Klitschko called for the dispatch of emergency teams to several districts of the city.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russian missiles were attacking Kiev and other areas.
