A massive explosion at a compound in Tatuape, east of São Paulo, left a trail of destruction spanning three blocks. The accident occurred at around 7:45 pm on Thursday (11/13) on Celso Garcia Street near the Salim Farah Maruf intersection, leaving one person dead and at least 10 injured.
According to the SP fire department, the premises were being used to store explosives. Fire Department Capt. Valdir Santos said it was suspected that the space was secretly being used to make fireworks and hot air balloons. The owner of the space has not yet been found.
The blast struck three blocks, destroying walls and roofs and breaking windows in apartments and cars. Roads in the neighborhood were littered with building debris and explosives stored inside homes. The SP Civil Defense has isolated the area due to the risk of further collapse.

Neighbors shared videos of the explosion’s destruction on social media. Developer Rodrigo Almeida revealed the damage to his home in publications on X and Instagram. “The whole ceiling here collapsed. It was already the whole ceiling. I can’t find the cat. The street is full of people crying,” the man said.

Residents said the explosion occurred near a gas station. The windows of some cars parked near the scene or passing on Celso Garcia Street at the time of the accident were shattered by the impact.

Another video posted on social media shows an unidentified woman, who had previously believed the explosion occurred at a gas station down the road, showing her destroyed home and searching for her pets. “The house was destroyed, and there were several houses on the street. I couldn’t find my cat, and the house exploded. I’m shaking so much I can’t even hold my phone,” he said. Look:
