Salome Pradas’ advisor, who accompanied her on October 29, 2024, when the Dana disaster occurred, declared before the trial judge in the case that there was a discussion about sending the Es-Alert for “about an hour” at a meeting of the Joint Operations Coordination Center (Sekopi). Presa, sources cited in the statement told elDiario.es, attributed the delay in sending the EsAlert to a lengthy discussion between José Miguel Basset, chief inspector of the State Fire Protection Association, and Jorge Suárez, deputy director of the Department of Emergency Situations.
“I couldn’t understand why there was so much controversy,” the witness said. A former Prada advisor explained that there was a discussion about “what kind of message they were trying to send out,” and that “each one proposed something.”
He also detailed that the text of the message was ultimately created by Bassett, Suarez, and a third technician who has not been identified. The former adviser once again expressed surprise at the delay in sending out the S-Alert on the day of the tragedy that left 229 people dead.
According to the witness, Salome Pradas insisted that references to social networks (emergency and local television) be included in the text of the EsAlert.
Marco Presa also said that Pradas played an “active role” in the Czechopi talks. “She asked a lot of questions and pointed things out. She always did. She liked to be informed about everything,” he said in response to questions from Salome Pradas’ lawyer.
“What the counselors wanted was to send something and designate an official channel,” he noted. Mr. Presa asserted that Pradas did not stop shipments of EsAlert.
Convened a “Petit Committee” with Mr. Mazon
Witnesses reported that city councilors met with President Carlos Masson in a “subcommittee” meeting and said that “many of the calls took place in a separate room from the one hosting the Sekopi meeting.”
Marco Presa did not know whether he was referring to a video circulated on social networks at the Czechopi conference. He saw that the direct participants in the meeting were constantly talking. Witnesses confirmed that everyone was carrying a cell phone.
