Pro Tour STU Rio de Janeiro ran until Sunday (17th) in Barra da Tijuca, completely cementing its place on the world skateboarding calendar. The proof is in the entry list. There are more foreigners participating in this tournament than Brazilians. Of the 80 athletes enrolled in the street and park modalities, 43 are “gringos” and the rest (37) are from states such as Maranhão, Bahia and São Paulo.
You can check the weight of the stage in the list of entries. Street is the most balanced format, with 15 Brazilians to 9 foreigners for men and 10 Brazilians to 6 foreigners for women. In the women’s street, Olympic medalist Raissa Real will face stiff competition from Spain’s Daniela Terol and Japan’s Aoi Uemura. In the men’s division, Carlos Ribeiro and American Jake Ilardi are among the favorites to win.
Park is expected to compete with Britain’s Skye Brown (pictured above), a bronze medalist at the Tokyo and Paris Olympics, and Spain’s Nia Raso. Brazilian athletes such as Pedro Barros, who won silver in Tokyo, and Augusto Akio, who won bronze in Paris, are also on the list. Akio himself emphasized the high level of the tournament at the press conference, saying, “It’s rare for skaters from far away countries such as Japan, Europe, and the United States to gather in the same place. The energy will be very high, and the level of skateboarding will be very high.”

The figures show it will be a tough battle for home players, especially in parks dominated by foreign players. In the men’s division, there are 17 foreign players (including 7 Americans and 3 Japanese), but only 7 Brazilians. The proportion of women is also high: 5 Brazilians to 11 foreigners.
Canadian Cordano Russell, who will be competing on the street, is also looking forward to this stage. In his first Rio, he emphasized the strength of Brazil’s fans. “I’m really happy to be here. I love this circuit and the Brazilian fans are one of the most loyal and loyal fans. After the Paris Olympics, we started to get a lot of Brazilian fans. It’s unbelievable,” he said.
