US President Donald Trump once again attacked Democrats this Friday (14th) in response to ongoing efforts in Congress to release files related to the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. In a post on the Truth social network, the Republican wrote that the issue was a hoax designed to distract from all the “bad policy” and what he called “the embarrassment of the recent government shutdown.”
President Trump also wrote that this issue is a Democratic issue, not a Republican one. He said former Democratic President Bill Clinton, businessman Reid Hoffman, the founder of LinkedIn and one of the biggest donors to Kamala Harris’ 2024 presidential campaign, and Larry Summers, a former Treasury secretary and government critic, “know everything” about the financier accused of abuse and sex trafficking and should be questioned about the case.
“Epstein was a Democrat and that’s a Democratic problem, not a Republican problem!” Trump wrote in the post. “Don’t waste your time on Trump. I have a country to run!”
He added that despite the fact that the Justice Department has already released 50,000 pages of documents related to the case, opponents will still “do everything in their power” to “re-propagate the Epstein hoax.”
The statement came after Democratic lawmakers on Wednesday released purported emails from Epstein that suggest the current president was aware of the sexual abuse taking place and spent hours with one of his victims.
The issue is important to the Trumpist base and considered sensitive by Republican leaders who have always denied involvement in human rights abuses. Groups that form the president’s support base are also demanding that the Justice Department reveal the contents of the documents and identify those involved in the scandal who have not yet been exposed.
