This Friday, the US government released photos of the world’s largest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, arriving in the Caribbean as US forces mobilize in the region. Carrier Strike Group 12 is already operating in the Western Atlantic, tasked with interdicting illicit networks, neutralizing transnational threats, protecting the Caribbean Sea, and defending North American territory, according to US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM). The ship’s arrival, announced in late October by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, has reignited tensions with Venezuela, labeling the move as another U.S. attempt to overthrow President Nicolas Maduro.
