The protest was promoted by the Canary Islands Student Association (ACE), whose president, Andres Paz Pais, accused Quiles of trying to “dynamize coexistence” in educational centers where “people of all ideologies” sit to “dialogue about a common future”.
“He has come to spread hatred and a speech based on lies, with the sole purpose of attacking his political opponents. His speech violates human rights, goes against gender equality, denies climate change, and denies people sexual freedom. We cannot compromise on a speech that violates the very principles and purpose of the university,” Pais said.
In a statement, Mr. Podemos asked Anselmo Pestana, representative of the Canary Islands government, for an “urgent explanation” regarding the fact that this act by Mr. Kress was allowed on the La Laguna campus despite not being authorized by the university.
The party also questioned how police “escorted” “far-right agitators” while “violence was incited.”
