Eduardo is accused of trying to intimidate authorities investigating, prosecuting and trying his father, a former president. Jair Bolsonaro (PL) In the action of a coup plot. There are already two votes to name the deputy as a defendant. One of the reporters, Minister alexandre de moraesand the other from the class president and minister. Flavio Dino. Minister still has to vote Cristiano Zanin and carmen lucia. The trial will be held virtually in plenary session and is scheduled to conclude on November 25th.

“I thought I was bringing consequences to the abusers of power, who go unpunished because they threaten and control the three great powers in Brazil and reduce their dictatorial desires,” Eduardo wrote in the publication.

According to the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), the author of the complaint, Eduardo worked in the United States to organize financial sanctions against Brazil and its judicial authorities. In July, Mr. Moraes was subject to measures based on: Magnitsky methodwhich imposes financial penalties on individuals accused of human rights violations. Other ministers also had their US visas revoked.

In this Friday’s vote, Mr. Moraes said that Mr. Eduardo admitted in several publications he made on social networks that he participated in the implementation of economic sanctions applied against Brazil and its authorities. The minister said the lawmaker had been lobbying against the country in the United States, while also arguing that only a “broad, general and unlimited” pardon for coup suspects could overturn punishment by the U.S. government.

Moraes said that based on conversations extracted from Bolsonaro’s cell phone, it was possible to conclude that Eduardo’s visit to the United States was “substantially connected to an attempt to intimidate the Brazilian authorities.” For the Minister, the Deputy Minister sought to create an unstable institutional and social environment in which he sought to coerce the authorities.

“In this context, Mr. Eduardo has publicly assumed the role of coordinating sanctions with senior U.S. government officials. There is evidence of materiality and reasonable and sufficient evidence of authorship,” the minister said.

In this case, Mr. Eduardo is represented by the Federal Public Service Department (DPU). The defense was decided by Representative Alexandre de Moraes, as he did not appoint a lawyer during the proceedings and did not provide a preliminary response to the charges.

influencer Paulo Figueiredowas also accused by the PGR and criticized the trial. In a social media post, he said Eduardo had been “accused without citation for a lawful act that took place outside the jurisdiction of the court,” adding: “He becomes the first politician in our recent history to be sentenced in absentia without a defense.” For him, the process is “not just a personal vendetta for Mr. Alexander, but a futile attempt to remove Mr. Bolsonaro from the polls.”
