Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is scheduled to make an official visit to Spain in the coming days, with a visit to the State Duma already scheduled as part of his itinerary next Tuesday.
Until now, the exact dates of the Ukrainian president’s visit have not been disclosed for security reasons, but a visit to parliament has already been confirmed, where he will be received by Speaker Francina Armengol and Senate President Pedro Lorán. As detailed, he will meet both of them in the Hall of the Lost Stairs in the Palace of Cortes.
With this, President Zelenskiy resumed a visit to Spain, which had to be canceled in April this year, in order for the Ukrainian leader to attend Pope Francis’ funeral at the Vatican.
The Ukrainian president is scheduled to visit Paris on Monday, where he will be received by French President Emmanuel Macron and discuss the security that Kiev’s allies can provide if a ceasefire with Russia is reached, from where he will travel to Madrid.
The full agenda has not yet been finalized
Although the full itinerary for this trip to Spain has not been announced, it is possible that President Zelenskiy will visit the Reina Sofia National Center and see Picasso’s “Guernica,” an artwork that has become an international symbol of rejection of war.
The President of Ukraine visited Spain in 2022 and gave a speech before the Congress of Cortés, in which he made precise reference to the bombing of the Basque city by German forces during the civil war, compared it to the situation in his country attacked by Russia, and said: “We are in April 2022, but it seems like we are in April 1937.”
As government officials recently announced, the administration intends to use Russia’s presence to convey its full support and the need to continue pressure on Russia.
On October 21, President Zelenskiy spoke by phone with Government President Pedro Sánchez and agreed to new talks between the two sides, which Moncloa has not yet announced.
During the conversation, the Ukrainian president expressed gratitude to Spain for sending 70 generators to help rebuild the country’s energy system in the face of constant bombing by Russia.
Sanchez explained in a message.
