The Basque plan “Spain, 50 years of freedom” makes no mention of ETA or of the sacrifices made by the security forces and military forces in defense of freedom. The plan is for the government to target Francoism as a distraction. … And it ignores the evidence of a transition of power based on agreement and dialogue between the Spanish people. The 50th Anniversary of the Restoration of Democracy is marred from its origins by its frontist character, a story of terror and extortion starring gangsters, plunged into a nadir in a project aligned with the oblivion and obliteration dictated by nationalism, if not the successor of ETA itself, the most loyal partner of the executive branch. If there was ever a threat to freedom, it was the threat of ETA promoting regression to freedom. Totalitarianism that the government and its partners are willfully ignoring through a project that revictimizes the martyrs of our democracy and distorts history and memory.
