The Natal City Council has proceeded with impeachment proceedings against Councilor Brisa Bracchi (PT), who is accused of using public funds to organize a party to commemorate former President Jair Bolsonaro’s (PL) house arrest.
On Thursday (November 13), the day after the PT members filed their defense, Rep. Fulvio Sauro (Solidariedade), rapporteur of the Special Committee of the House of Representatives, submitted an opinion in favor of his impeachment.
Proceedings for his impeachment began in August after Mateus Faustino (Union-RN) was accused of using 18,000 reais for tax reforms to raise funds for his party.
National PTs react
PT National President Edinho Silva has reacted to the development of the case against PT councilors. In his column, he said Brisa was the subject of “political persecution” by his colleagues in the chamber.
“What is said to be an investigative process into her performance in Congress is, in fact, not only characterized as an episode of political violence, persecution of young women fighting for their ideals,” Edinho said.
The current PT chairman also questioned the fact that the rapporteur made his opinion several hours after the councilor gave his defence.
“Within a few hours of filing Mr. Brisa’s defence, the Chamber of Commerce had already transferred the cassation proceedings. In other words, the preparations for the transfer were already in place, allowing Mr. Brisa to present the claims he wanted, the necessary documents and all possible legal grounds. The decision had already been taken, and this is the hallmark of political persecution and political violence,” Edinho declared.
