Belen (Pennsylvania) – The United Nations (UN) issued a statement on Tuesday night (November 11) regarding the chaotic protest at the main gate of the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém (Pennsylvania). The group said two security guards were slightly injured when protesters broke through barriers to enter the conference’s restricted areas, known as blue zones.

The United Nations reported in a statement that following the incident, Brazilian security forces and the United Nations Department for Security (UNDSS) jointly acted to control the situation and ensure protection of the scene.
The organization also said that “all established security protocols were followed” and that “the space is completely secure.”
The statement also said the main entrance where the riot occurred sustained minor damage and is being repaired. Access is scheduled to resume this Wednesday (12/11) at 7am.

The demonstration, which brought together members of civil society and indigenous organizations, was part of the Global Health and Climate March, which covered approximately 1.5 kilometers through the streets of Belém to the conference headquarters.
Protesters said the groups that tried to enter the Blue Zone were not part of any official organization and were acting independently.
During the clashes, UN security teams set up a human cordon and used wooden tables to block access. One of the injured agents had to be transported in a wheelchair.
