Do you know about hybrid cats? These felines are the result of crossbreeding wild cats and domestic cats. Some breeds emerged naturally without human intervention, while others, such as hybrids, are the result of genetic modification carried out in a laboratory.

caracal
Visually it is already clear that the caracal kitten is different from other common cats. His ears are pointed and slightly slanted, with what looks like a tuft of black hair at the tips, which makes him even more distinctive. This trait was inherited from its ancestor, the wild caracal cat.
The Caracal is a feline known for its long black ears, hence its Turkish name Karakulak (black ears).
This breed is the result of a cross between a wild caracal and a domestic cat. The theory behind its appearance is that the domestic cat interbred with a wild cat after entering an enclosure at a zoo in Russia’s capital, Moscow. So, contrary to expectations, this was not a hybrid created in a lab.
It is also called the “domestic lynx”. Besides their ears, these animals have similar colors to their ancestors, with dark brown and caramel fur. The eyes have a black outline, which also looks like eyeliner. In terms of behavior, the domestic cat caracal has a very keen hunting instinct.
Asherah
Surprisingly, the price of this breed can be as exorbitant as R$500,000. This price is related to the fact that it was created in a laboratory, as it was completely planned by humans. It is estimated that only 100,000 Ashera cats are bred by the management company, Lifestyle Pets, each year.
Due to their rarity and the fact that they are unfertilized and do not reproduce naturally, they are considered the most expensive cats in the world.
However, the ancestors of this animal did not originate in nature either. These were created in a laboratory by mixing domestic cats with wild hybrid cats, such as African serval cats and Asian leopard cats. All these crosses created this wild-looking feline.
Asheras can have many different types of fur as a result of a combination of numerous genes. The most common is cream colored with brown spots, a trait that the hybrid inherited from the leopard. Unlike others, he is not capricious and behaves like a domestic cat. It can grow over 1 meter in size and weigh up to 15 kg.
bengal
Cat or jaguar? This hybrid is known for its coat with brown spots spread all over its body, similar to a jaguar or leopard. However, this is no coincidence, since the Bengal was born from a cross between a domestic cat and a leopard.
The wild ancestor of the Bengal cat is the leopard.
However, not all of them are the result of this crossover. On the contrary, it is even more difficult for this to happen, since leopards are on the verge of extinction. Additionally, the problem remains that wild animals do not always respond well to the approaches of domestic cats for breeding purposes.
Therefore, Bengal cats are divided into four lineages, and the generation that crossed with leopards is almost no longer seen. A kitten’s personality is influenced by its proximity to its ancestors. In other words, temperament is determined by how closely they are genetically related to wild animals.
Choshi
This is one of the most distinctive kittens. Like anything else, it inherits characteristics from its ancestors, but in the case of Chausi, they are much more subtle. It arose from a cross between a domestic cat and a jungle cat known as the swamp lynx, which is much smaller than other wild cats.
The name “Chausie” comes from the Latin name for its wild ancestor, the swamp cat.
The coat can vary in shades of yellowish-gray and reddish-brown. This animal’s ears are medium in size with small tufts of black hair at the tips, similar to the ears of a serval cat. The most notable thing about this kitten is its slightly flattened nose, which is not often seen in felines.
In addition to these other colors, the Chausie may also have colors similar to jungle cats, namely shades of gray or grey-beige. As for behavior, these animals have inherited a lot of their temperament from their ancestors, as they are full of energy and are good hunters.
savannah
The appearance of this cat is enough to impress everyone. They are the result of crossbreeding between domestic cats and the African serval, a wild cat. These animals attract attention because they are much larger than domestic animals and have small bat-like heads, large ears, and spotted fur.
The Savannah cat, a cross between a domestic cat and an African serval, is known for its large, exotic appearance and is known as one of the most expensive cats in the world.
All of these traits are passed down to the Savannah Cat, which has a lineage divided into different generations, with F1 being the closest to its ancestor. In this case, the animal is large for the species and can weigh up to 25 kg. They are famous giant cats.
Savannahs also imitate serval behavior. Although they are highly skilled hunting cats, they can also be timid and suspicious. Of course, what these cats lack is energy. Other interesting facts are that, like its ancestors, it can jump about 3 meters in height and eats only meat.
