Scenic artist Abel Gómez, producer of the Enseada de Botafogo Christmas Tree and Copacabana’s New Year’s Eve, revealed yesterday that there will be changes to the New Year’s fireworks show. For the first time, fireworks will be set on 19 rafts. This is almost double the 10 structures traditionally used at the festival since the fireworks display was moved from the sand to the high seas as a safety measure at the turn of 2000-2001.
— We want to offer new experiences to the public. Fireworks will light up the night sky, but the show will last no more than 12 minutes, making it a memorable time for your party. Abel Gomez explained that small and large ferries will be placed alternately on the coast.
Before the samba, Alok has to go on stage right after the fireworks and perform an electronic music show with hundreds of drones in the sky.
Riotour president Bernardo Ferro confirmed that two more stages will be installed at Copacabana, as was the case last year. One for samba enthusiasts and the other for gospel music.
The fireworks are made in China and are less noisy than traditional fireworks. The show will be accompanied by a soundtrack composed especially for the occasion. The rocket operator will be Marcelo Cocote of Vision Show, Abel Gomez’s old partner for the fireworks display on New Year’s Eve and the closing of Rock in Rio. This year, they will be reinforced by a French coach who worked on the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2016 Olympics.
The companions also confirmed that stages for the show will also be set up in 10 other districts: Gobernador Island, Paquetá, Sepetiva, Oeste Park (Inhoaiba), Guaratiba, Realengo, Ramos and Peña. In addition to the show, Praia do Flamengo also hosts fireworks.
In Barra and Recrio, private fireworks displays are held at 10 hotels and condominiums.
